@itamar105 Come on guys! It is a Hollywood movie, they could make appear E.T. and they would justify it anyway. The only thing we agree is the fact that roman legions used war dogs during their campaigns. The breed for movie purposes is not so relevant. Salut!
@kaleycuoco10
the battle in the movie was one of the last fought during the end of the Marcomanni-Roman Empire wars (166 180 AD) The Romans deployed 15/18 legions plus auxiliaries and the Germanic people 3-4 hundred thousend of warriors. Eventually the Empire prevailed but henceforth 16 legions were stationed permanently to watch the limes.
i was at that battle you will see rapeing that germanic warlord i was the first to stab him i think i killed 20 men that day nearly lost my arm to i was at the siege of troy too!
@rangerchallengebravo it’s a natural reaction to try and avoid being hit by something e.g a sword in this case, and when there’s thousands of people swinging swords at eachother it’s pretty hard to maintain formation.
@Loshpot Romans frightened of going to Scotland? What about the battle of Mons Graupius? The Romans kicked Caledonian ass with only committing auxilia to battle. The Romans went to Scotland, they didn’t stay because there was nothing worth staying for, the grain and markets for Roman products were in the south.
the dogs are historically wrong
the Roman soldiers he have Mastino Napoletano (look in to Google)
not the actually German shepherd dog what you see in this movie
sorry for my bad english (I´m from Napoli near Pompei) SALUT
@rangerchallengebravo The barbarians and celts used to break formation all the time and go running in screaming, they didn’t give a fuck. That was their “selling point” and why the Romans were frightened of going into Scotland.
I had that same thought recently. In these sorts of movies, why do both sides always break formation, and mass pandemonium ensues? In ancient times, breaking formation like that was suicide. It always has been; even in modern combat it is.
I think the answer to that question is that people want to see sword-fighting. It’s much more visually stimulating than people staying in a tight formation and using spears.
@macnos
perhaps you could make a case that their front line was split open by the charge. If you notice their front is taken a bit by surprise when the barbarians charge after the arrow barrage. Still I doubt the whole force would break rank into open combat
Someone translate in English for me what the rebel leader says starting at @2:24. Thanks!!!!!!
@rtjeder Yeah exactly who cares about controlling a shitty cold over mountained savage province like scotland lool
this scene is the best but the quaility sucks…i cant complain thnx anyways
love this scene
shity quality
I love how they take down the barbarian warlord. Its exactly how I would love to imagine being killed in battle, so honourable.
Nice subtitles
great the old time battles, the time when hand to hand combad was nomral and one battle could take 1 day
Roman war scenes = The BEST war scenes.
