Trans fats are artificially produced fats that are very unhealthy. The consumption of trans fats is one of the main causes for the current obesity epidemic. Trans fats are used in fast food, chips, baked goods, french fries, etc. Trans fats are produced through the hydrogenation of vegetable oils such as sunflower and soybean oil. During this chemical process hydrogen molecules are added to the oil molecules and the oil becomes solid as is the case with margarine. When consuming natural fats, it takes the body 18 days to metabolize half of them. When consuming trans fats, it takes the body 51 days to metabolize half of them. This means that half of the trans fats you eat will still be in your body 51 days later!     @vegannese A lot of supermarkets have caught on to the fact that hydrogenated oils are bad for the health of their customers, so they know longer add it to their own brands. Hence the label: “Contains no hydrogenated fats or oils”

    Always check the ingredients label! Food products will contain trans fat if they include any of the following ingredients: (partially) hydrogenated oil or fat, shortening, margarine. If these are not listed, you should be ok.

    Does anybody know how to actually detect a food that contains hidrogenated fats in the UK? I see lots of labeling on products “no hidrogenated fats or oils” but… are they actually being honest?

    don’t be fooled everyone. alot of labels say no transfat but when you read the back of the label it will often have partially hydrogenated oils on the label. i think if it’s under a have of gram they don’t have to label it. peanut butter is bad a doing that. stick with natural or organic.

    You realize some of us cant help it lets say a kid that doesnt have a job, and his parents keep buying trans fat foods. I mean when i was younger I didnt have a job so I couldnt afford my own food even if i begged my mom to stop buying foods with trans fats she still did anyways. So not everyone can help to buy it.

    Legal Food Genocide! Im glad I went vegetarian. I wouldn’t eat our animals anymore no telling what they feed them. I would have eaten animals maybe 100 years ago. Nowadays no way. It’s too polluted and the food industry is corrupt.

    I buy my bread at either ‘Choices’ or ‘Caper’s Whole Foods’. It’s basically whole wheat flour, water, sea salt and yeast. No additives, stabilisers, chemicals, sugars, oils or GMOs in this stuff. If you don’t have these stores, just try to find bread with no more than 5 or 6 ingredients and definitely, no soy, corn, canola or cottonseed! Up to 21 ingredients in a loaf of bread is just INSANE! Is it any wonder that so many people are getting sick?

    @RandyBful1 Good for you ! I shy away from most breads because I can’t find anything with those basic ingredients. HFCS is the main ingredient in most products, even after all my years as a vegan, I am still very surprised to see how we are being deceived and manipulated.

    Have you seen “modified milk products”? In ‘modified cheese food’ for example, it’s basically the sludge that remains after processing that is unusable for any other purpose! There are so many advertising gimmicks and deceptions that it just makes me sick! It’s like claiming that a product contains ‘NO ASPARTAME’, then putting acesulfame-potassium in it…same thing!

    A year ago, I too was caught up in the global deception. I believed that eating “100% whole wheat” bread would improve my health. Some ingredients: sugar, glucose/fructose (this is how they label High Fructose Corn Syrup, in Canada), hydrogenated oils and mono and diglycerides…one loaf I looked at listed 21 ingredients! Here are the ingredients of the bread I buy now: Whole wheat flour, organic wheat flour, filtered water, sea salt and yeast. This is REAL bread!

    U.S. cheese IS plastic! Take a bite of “processed modified cheese food” and then take a bite of real “aged cheddar cheese”. They’re not even on the same planet! BTW: CANOLA oil is a fraud! It is not good for you. It is POISON! It’s GMO and saturated with pesticides! Do your research. The three most dangerous GMOs are CORN, SOY and CANOLA! I’ve eliminated them from my diet for over a year, now. That means, NO processed food and NO fast food.
